The Shrine

Just south of Ponte Vedra Beach, on the way to St Augustine, lies what some call the Guana preserve. A bastion of wildness tuck into the sprawl that is north east florida, the preserve has as one of its many assests a fine stretch of beach. Since the preserve also acts as a bird/wildlife sanctuary, the beaches are free of the dune side development that haunts many of the beaches in the area. So if it's sea to the east and dunes to west, Guana is the place for you.

Being a beach, lots of flotsam and jetsam wash up on the shore. If you spend enough time there, you will see folks taking the time to pick up and carry off some of this ocean borne trash. But others have come up with different solution: The Shrine. The Shrine is built solely of items found on the beach. It can be viewed as something both clever and creepy. Clever in its use of any and all items that wash up on shore. Creepy in it being a lone primitivist object on an otherwise empty beach.

so last year,sometime before xmas, i highlighted a little "backpack kite" in an REI catalog. and then promptly forgot about it until i unwrapped a present and there it was. so i took it to the beach and other places and tried to figure out how to fly it. some how, some where mrs and i found out about some sort of spring time kite demo in st augustine. when i spied the monster in these pix, i was beyond hooked.....
